Kawasaki First Quarter Sales Increase

Kawasaki reports a first quarter sales increase.
August 3, 2007

US - Kawasaki’s division that handles power sports products is reporting a 12 percent increase in sales in the company’s first quarter compared to the year-ago period.

Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) reported its first-quarter sales July 31.

Its consumer products and machinery division, which includes power sports, had first-quarter sales of $968 million. KHI does not break out its motorcycle or ATV sales as a separate segment.

Overall, KHI’s first-quarter sales amounted to $2.6 billion, a 9 percent increase over the previous-year period. Its net income rose to $97.4 million, a 117 percent over last year’s first quarter. KHI also reported sales increases in other divisions, including aerospace (6 percent), shipbuilding (162 percent) and gas turbines and machinery (1 percent).

Looking ahead, KHI expects its fiscal year sales to be $12.4 billion, a nearly 3 percent increase over the past year.
